Perspective—Redox Ionic Liquid Electrolytes for Supercapattery

Adding redox activity into ionic liquids (ILs) extends their practical roles beyond an inert conductor or electrolyte for applications in electrochemical energy storage. Especially supercapatteries, ILs are desirable because they can contribute to increasing the charge storage capacity by merging capacitive and Nernstian mechanisms without compromising intrinsic wide potential windows. Several prospects of identified discussed optimising performance supercapatteries.
